The Calabrese File Palm Beach County Commission · District 4 · Election Nov. 3, 2026
Case file · Candidate Curtis Calabrese (D)

He took the Emgage endorsement. He still owns it.

Curtis Calabrese is listed by name on Emgage Action's own endorsement page as its pick for Palm Beach County Commission, District 4. This year Emgage is also backing Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Abdul El-Sayed and Angie Nixon. District 4 voters, including Boca Raton's Jewish community, deserve to know why he wants that support, and why he hasn't rejected it.

Emgage Action describes its endorsees as candidates who "reflect our values" and have been vetted through its endorsement process. Calabrese's name, photo and race appear on that list.

The Internet Archive's Wayback Machine preserved the page on October 11, 2026. That copy is permanent, even if the listing is quietly taken down. See the archived page.

We found no public statement from Calabrese rejecting the endorsement. As of October 21, it is still on Emgage's site.

Exhibit C · Who is Emgage?

The record critics have documented

  • Middle East ForumReports that Emgage was founded by South Florida attorney Khurrum Wahid, who previously served as a legal advisor and chapter director at CAIR, and that the two groups regularly coordinate.
  • Washington Free BeaconReported that Emgage Action has described Israel as an "apartheid" state and routinely lobbies in favor of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.
  • U.S. Senate, June 2021Eight Republican senators raised "serious concern" over a federal nominee's work with Emgage Action, calling the group "vocally anti-Israel."
  • Middle East ForumQuotes Emgage PAC stating that it asks every candidate seeking its endorsement about Palestine, settlements and the right to boycott.

Emgage calls itself a Muslim American civic engagement organization and has rejected allegations against it. Calabrese can settle the question for District 4 voters by releasing what he told Emgage to earn its support.

Exhibit D · The CAIR connection

What Florida says about CAIR

What CAIR is

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, founded in 1994, calls itself the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy group, with chapters across the country.

What Florida did

On Dec. 8, 2025, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order designating CAIR and the Muslim Brotherhood as foreign terrorist organizations. The order alleges CAIR has ties to Hamas.

What it means

State agencies are directed to deny contracts, employment and funds to the groups and to anyone who provides them material support.

CAIR denies any ties to Hamas and has sued, calling the order unconstitutional and defamatory. Neither CAIR nor the Muslim Brotherhood is designated by the federal government. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a similar order.

Emgage's founder came out of CAIR, according to the Middle East Forum. Florida's governor calls CAIR a terrorist organization. Calabrese wants Emgage's support anyway.

Exhibit E · Character

He won't level with voters, and he won't respect her

Calabrese has told Boca Raton voters he has no involvement with Emgage. Emgage's own website lists him, by name and photo, as its endorsed candidate. Both can't be true.

Instead of answering for that, he has chosen to attack Commissioner Marci Woodward personally rather than debate her record. Woodward, a Boca Raton Republican, won the seat four years ago. She joined the Tri-Rail board, which she went on to chair, and the county's Metropolitan Planning Organization. She is running on that record.

That record includes standing with Israel. In 2024, Woodward was on the County Commission when it voted unanimously to raise the county's cap on Israel Bonds from 10% to 15%. The move made Palm Beach County the largest buyer of that debt in the world, after the October 7 Hamas attack.

Woodward's record: backing Israel. Calabrese's record: Emgage's endorsement.

Calabrese took an oath when he became a Navy officer. Someone who takes an oath shouldn't mislead the people he wants to serve, and shouldn't treat a woman in public office with contempt.

If this is how he treats people now, while he's asking for your vote, how will he treat you once he's in office?

Exhibit F · Unanswered

Questions Calabrese owes District 4

  1. Will you publicly reject the Emgage endorsement and ask to be removed from its list?
  2. Did you complete Emgage's candidate questionnaire? What did you say about Israel, settlements and boycotts?
  3. Do you stand with the rest of Emgage's 2026 slate: Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, Abdul El-Sayed and Angie Nixon?
  4. Will you apologize to Commissioner Woodward and run on the issues instead?

There's no room for antisemitism in Boca Raton, in Palm Beach County or anywhere in Florida. Our commissioners should protect every resident and should never single out women or Jewish families.
